Challenge
We have been approached by three large businesses in the food sector in Djibouti, who faced rising energy consumption and consequently higher expenses. Reducing costs by decentral energy production by mainly solar and partly wind energy was the central challenge in these cases, without having the permission to feed-in on the local grid.
Approach
After getting basic information of each business by desk research, we went for site visits in order to verify the information and perform real-time measurements of consumption levels as well as complete load-lists with all equipment installed. Physical site data like rooftop dimensions and wind turbine siting were also included. With this data we were able to use modelling systems like Homer Pro, PVSyst and wind energy tools to get the best possible and most feasible energy system with maximum self-consumption. The business cases were completed with financial analysis and possible finance packages to facilitate realization.
Result
A rooftop Solar system has been installed at one of the businesses, resulting into decreased operational costs for the company, enlarge their green image and create awareness and impact towards their stakeholders and employees.
